It's cooling off in Phoenix which means it's time for bicycle alleycat races! Chris says there's a very specific season for these races (Oct - May) and we're in it. Friday night, October 23, there was a sprint race down Central Avenue in downtown Phoenix called Central Slayer. I was fighting a cold and am generally not much for sprinting so I chose to take pictures rather than race.
It was a quick ride (only about 3 miles) but there was a great showing with 70+ riders. There was a crash, but luckily he wasn't hurt badly - only scratches and bruises. The story was told over and over because of the sparks his pedals caused when coming in contact with the curb. I'm sure it was a sight to see.
Fun was had by all plus money was raised for the bicycle co-op, The Rusty Spoke. The prizes were amazing due to sponsorship from Kore Bikes, Nixon, Electric, Bicycle Haus, Cherry Bombin Wear, and AZFixed. Thanks to Hot City Destroyers for putting on a fun night! I'm lucky to be a part of such an awesome cycling community in Phoenix.
