Presidential Race

October 15, 2004 - 10:48pm

Have you been keeping up with the Presidential race? Surely you've seen at least one of the debates. If not, you're reading out it, right? You have no excuse. This only happens once every 4 years. So get off your butt and pay attention! I don't care who you vote for, just make sure you're informed and that you vote!

Now that I'd done lecturing, I'll tell you something. I missed the first debate and the VP debate, but I watched the second. Tivo grabbed Wednesday night's debate while I was at the fair. I just haven't watched it yet.

Bush's Bulge
All the rumors about the bulge on Bush's back during the first debate sure is interesting. Have you heard about it? People think Bush is wired. They think he was wearing a receiver so someone somewhere else prompts his speech. Read about the controversy at isbushwired.com. If you want a more mainstream source, check out the New York Times article, " The Mystery of the Bulge in the Jacket ." I particularly like Ultramicroscopic's take on it.

Complaint About the 2nd Debate
So the second debate, the only one I've watched so far, was structured like a town hall meeting. Normal people from the audience were chosen to ask questions to the candidates. The questions were excellent! I was very, very impressed with all the people. I was very unimpressed with the candidates' responses. Neither candidate answered a question 100% straight-forward. Gentlemen, just answer the f***ing question! Though we might not agree with your answer completely, we'd respect you more for being firm on your answer. This race should not be about smoothing over your answers in order to appeal to the greatest number of people. It should be about telling us what you would really do in office! I imagine this is just the way they've learned to do it by being politicians for so long. Wouldn't it be really nice if we had someone other than a politician running for office?

Got that stright. Ban the politicians! Vote for me! President Justin! I'll set you all on fire and take over the world and we won't ever have to complain about politics again. Ok, I'm just joking... or am I? WHWHWHAHAHAHAHAHA!

It's sad, but the reason the debates seem so repetitive (and the reason why the candidates don't really answer the questions asked, but keep harping on their central themes) is that the campaign advisors feel the American public has such a short attention span that we can't help but tune out of the debate and watch something else, so they've decided that the way to conteract that is to repeat the central themes every few minutes - to catch the channel surfers. Of course, that's precisely the kind of thing that alienates people with half a brain, and makes them want to change the channel in the first place! Ugh I hate politics.

Yes, I do wish that Howard Dean was in this race, instead of Kerry... he would be answering questions.. I know that. Kerry is a proffesional politician but to me he is so much better than Bush. I watched each debate as well as the comments after the debates. I was so angry to see how quickly the commentators were to say who won.. rather than discuss the issues.. and today all I hear about is Dick Cheney's daughter. And... we are supposed to be giving democracy to the rest of the world.. right...

Dean certainly would have been a more interesting candidate, but he kind of sunk his own campaign with the Hitler-esque "...North Carolina, then South Carolina...and then the White House YEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHHHH!" speech. (Please note that I'm not comparing Howard Dean to Hitler, just that the speech was...shall we say...a little overzealous?)

I thought that Dean's overzealousness was exactly what the democratic party needed. He is someone who is not afraid to get excited and show REAL emotion to rally his supporters. Don't get me wrong. I fully support Kerry but I really believe that the first canidate, Bush or Kerry, to show a human side will win the votes of the undecided. I watched all of the debates and I don't feel that either connected with the people in this way.

Vote Nader!!!!!!! YEEEEAHHHHHHHHH! If they'd let him in on the debates, don't you think that would have put the other 2 to the fire?
