Chris and I spent an entire weekend together as a way to celebrate my birthday. It was so good to just be together. It had only been a couple days, but I missed him so much! On Saturday while we ate breakfast, we discussed options for the weekend and ended up planning a project. We made a porch bed! It's kinda like a giant porch swing but with a queen-sized mattress and big enough for two people.
I was inspired by AB's porch bench / bed, which I've envied for some time. Chris developed a simple design and I found a cheap IKEA mattress on Craigslist. After picking up the mattress we got wood from Lowes. The next day we went into the wood shop and started building. Chris finished up the project on Monday and by the time I was finished with work, I could lounge on the porch bed. It's fabulous and a better birthday present than I could have ever asked for!
See pictures of the construction of the porch bed.
That is awesome! Happy Belated Birthday!
Wow! I rarely see things online that make me want to own a house, but this one definitely does! I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of it!
And, generally, I hope you're doing well :)
Abby
Thanks, ladies! Abby, you don't need to own a house, just come and visit me in Phoenix. You can spend the whole weekend on the porch bed!
OMG I want one of these. That totally rocks-literally!!Happy Belated Birthday. What a great gift and a great hubby!!
Awesome. What will you do when it rains? Do you cover it or pull the mattress inside?
This is seriously amazing. I cannot believe you actually got your porch bed!!! Chris is a maniac (a great one). So jealous!
Erica, I'm going to call you tomorrow. Sorry I've been MIA ... miss you tons. :)
That. Is awesome.
Erica,
Congratulations are in order, your new job,and new life!
Happy Birthday as well!
I am so thrilled and happy for you and Chris.
With everything falling into place, perhaps it is time to consider planning ahead for a family?
You and Chris would make lovely and awesome babies.
best wishes,
May Harding
Amazing, you two! You both are consistently inspiring.
Very cool! It'll be a pain to keep clean, but I imagine you'll love spending a lot of time on it. Oh, also, summer time is approaching!
Nice craftsmanship!
Never would have occurred to me to try and build something like that, but it's a hell of an idea.
I assume it's suspended directly from joists in the porch roof?
Pretty awesome.
