October was a very busy month for me. I've been doing a very poor job of keeping up with the events. When I don't write about things immediately, I find I forget the details. (Like the name of a bar or what I ate for dinner.) Here's a summary of what I can remember.
1st Weekend in October - Chris came to Phoenix.
Thursday I picked him up after work. On the way home, we went to BJ's for dinner. Friday morning Chris made me breakfast then I went to work. Chris was nice enough to go grocery shopping. When Chris picked me up, he was able to come tour the office. It's nice that he now knows where I spend an awful lot of my time. Friday night we went to dinner with Christy and Matt, my neighbors. We ate at their favorite restaurant, The Greek Patio. The food was every bit as good as they said it was. After dinner we went downtown to look at art. It was First Friday, Phoenix's art gallery walk. We saw some great art at one gallery and a lot of mediocre art elsewhere. But it was a lovely night to be outside and fun to hang out with Christy & Matt.
Saturday morning Chris made me breakfast. (He spoils me.) The weather was gorgeous so we spent a lot of time on the porch. It was the perfect morning to just hang out. I desperately wanted to go for a bike ride but Chris didn't have a bike. We tossed around the idea of getting him one and decided to just go look. Well, after a couple hours, looking turned into a purchase. We got home and immediately went for a ride. It turns out there's a lovely paved path near my house that runs next to a wash and has a lot of desert plant life. We cooked dinner together, drank wine (that I think neither of us cared for), and watched a movie (though I can't remember which movie).
Sunday it was my turn to cook breakfast. Then we loaded up the bikes and drove to Scottsdale. We stopped at the bike shop to get a new inner tube since Chris already had a flat tire from less than an hour of riding! Man, the desert is tough on stuff. We spent the better part of the day riding the greenbelt in Scottsdale. We even stopped and ate the lunch I packed. The weather was gorgeous and Chris is a lovely riding partner.
Sunday night we played poker with Jennifer and John. Chris and John play a LOT more poker than Jennifer and I yet we ended up in first and second place. I think the boys let us win. They knew we wouldn't ever play again if they clobbered us the first time. Jennifer cooked fantastic jalapeno and cream cheese snacks. I remember it was raining that night because my car window wouldn't roll up, which only happens when it rains. When we got home, Chris and I immediately went to work fixing the window. (It falls out of the track so we simply have to take the door apart and put the window back in the track. Pain in the butt, but I've been doing it ever since I got the car. Probably at least once a year.) Having Chris' help, a job which is normally pure torture for me, went really really fast. He is so wonderful.
A memorable moment from the weekend was having Chris find (and pluck) a grey hair on my head. I'm far too young to be grey.
2nd Weekend in October - Summer visited Phoenix

Summer made her first trip out to Phoenix to visit. It was so wonderful to have a girls weekend and just hang out.
Third Weekend in October - Maryland visiting Kristen

I had some work in the DC area two weeks in a row so I stayed the weekend in order to visit Kristen. Unfortunately, Chris, her husband, had to work all weekend so I only saw him briefly. Though, it was kinda nice to get Kristen all to myself...just like old times. We spent a day sightseeing around DC. The highlight for me was seeing the new Air Force Memorial. Even though we got lost and drove around for ages trying to find it. Just hanging out with Kristen was a treat. I miss having her around all the time like I used to in Arlington.
Kristen is 6 months pregnant and doing well. She jokes about being huge but she's carrying another person around! I think she looks beautiful and can't wait until she becomes a mom!
More to come about the last weekend in October...
