I just finished reading the book, 'The Mole People: Life In The Tunnels Beneath New York City' (Chicago Review Press, 1993), by Jennifer Toth. It was practically impossible to put down. I would highly, highly recommend this book.
I became fascinated with the idea of people living in the tunnels of New York City when it came up with Kevin. I can't remember what exactly brought it up, but he probably introduced me to the idea. (Kevin knows so much about things I've never even heard of!) Then I saw a documentary on tv about six months ago on people living in tunnels. Kevin bought this book for me during our Christmas visit and despite tons of school work, I read it in record time.
Looks like there are a lot of web references since this issue began getting public attention in the late 80's. Here are some that I have found:
Disinformation, an online alternative zine - this article has a ton of great links
Joseph Brennan's Abandoned Subway Stations
NYCSubway.org - some interesting historic photos
