On Friday, May 23rd, Chris and I went to the Justice Center in downtwown Phoenix and were legally married. The following weekend we had a ceremony with our friends and family in Texas.
The reason for two different events was due to an out-dated law in Texas. Texas has a three day waiting period for marriage licenses. So you have to wait 72 hours from obtaining a license to actually performing a ceremony. Chris and I weren't able to spend that much time in Texas so we opted for taking care of the legalities in Arizona.
Arizona law does not have a waiting period. You can obtain a license and be married in the same day. So on Thursday we spent about 20 minutes picking up a marriage license then on Friday we had a Justice of the Peace marry us in the Justice Center downtown.
Keesha, David, and Tyson joined us for the event; providing their services as witnesses and photographer. They were great fun and totally supportive. Things went quickly at the courthouse as we were the third wedding that evening. (It pays to show up early. There must have been a dozen couples at the same time.) We celebrated the event with champagne and dinner at Cheuvront. It was a great night.

@acmewife saw your tweet "Pictures from my legal marriage" and it made us laugh...
We didn't know if there were any pictures from the "illegal marriage" or what that would even be? (it just sounds wrong though!)
Too funny! Congrats guys!
Ha! Yes, I suppose the first thing to think is an "illegal marriage." But in my mind it's the legal marriage versus a wedding. The wedding being the spiritual and loving part of the endeavor. To me at least.
But maybe now there will be some great rumors floating around about my illegal marriage!
I'm still super stoked! Congratulations and the pictures look so nice.
Ahhh! He got married in the moustache after all! I love it! So glad I could see you two last weekend :) Congrats!
A three day waiting period for a marriage but I can get a gun in five minutes? Welcome to Texas.
That three day waiting period is why my parents drove to Oklahoma and eloped. There's family lore that says something like they were engaged, broke up, pawned the ring, then he showed up at her door and said "now or never, sweetheart" (I embellish). So they drove to OK (lest she change her mind), and they married -- her in a yellow mini skirt. Then they went to a bar, took tequila shots, and called their parents.
Still together, 35 years later!
The pics are great, Erica. Congratulations, and best wishes for a long and happy marriage!
Congrats Erica! You might want to update your "About me" though...!
Nat, you're absolutely right. I'm married now and not engaged! Thanks for the reminder.
