Indecision

December 20, 2002 - 5:58pm

I am the most indecisive person in the whole world. Well, maybe not the whole world. Well, then again, maybe I am. Yes, I definitely am. Hmmm, maybe not.

Ok, so I'm trying to buy a laptop. I simply can't decide!! I know what I want IN it but I can't decide who to buy it from. Which company is the best? Should I buy an IBM, Dell, Compaq, Toshiba, Sony??? Should I get a refurbished, new, or used machine? Ahhhh, I can't decide! And frankly, I sick and tired of not being able to make a decision about this.

Someone remind me it's JUST A COMPUTER.

I would also recommend considering an iBook or PowerBook. After all, it's the power and stability of Unix with the friendly Mac interface on top :).

if you have money to blow, i'd suggest the ibm t series or the compaq evo line. and make sure the laptop is capable of 3d acceleration.

Dell would be my first pick, if you don't want a Mac, mostly because Dell comes with the least amount of proprietary crapware on it. They're all the same on the inside, more or less, anyway. They'll all *work* :)

Titanium Powerbook G4, no contest. If you simply have to get a piece of crap PC, I'd go for a Sony.

I'd say Dell by far but make sure to avoid Compaqs at all costs!

My Sony is cute and does me fine, but I don't think I'd buy one again. Dell has great prices so I've noticed.. but then again I don't know shit about computers.. I'm happy if it turns on.

Don't waste money on anything other than a Mac. They are more expandable, more reliable, more flexible, more fun, more beautiful (inside and out) and will last longer than the IBM-compats. A PC is just a computer. You can form a longterm relationship with a Mac! (Note to Steve Jobs: send the endorsement checks directly to T-bone)

Get the DELL! Get the DELL! Get the DELL! Get the DELL! Seriously, I love mine. And I bought a lot of laptops for a lot of reasons when working in telecomm. (I'd only get a MAC if I were a hard core graphic designer. If I were going back to school, I'd get a PC.) And for what you need, Billy's right. Get the top of the line Dell Latitude direct from the manufacturer. You'll be making a better price point, and you'll be glad you did! :-)
