DSL Deprived

January 27, 2003 - 6:40pm

We're still without DSL at home. I think I'm going to die. Soon. For real, I feel like I'm cut off from the rest of the world. Ok, cut off from my world, that's for sure. But I did figure out something cool yesterday - my camera can be used like an external USB drive! So at least the lack of DSL is forcing me to be creative with my technology.

Weekend
Friday night I got to enjoy the company of Never, AnBei, and Vince Chao. It was so wonderful to sit around the kitchen at Chao Camp and just talk. They are good people.

Saturday I went to class and got totally blown away. The instructor was going over the stuff so fast I could barely think. (And I had prepared before class so I felt pretty good about the info.) At least I wasn't the only one feeling left in the dust. I figured out on Sunday while studying that I'm not as clueless as I thought. I just can't do it as fast as our prof does...yet.

Saturday night had dinner with Gary at the TGIFriday at the Ballpark in Arlington. We tried to see a movie but it was sold out. Since it was all rainy and cold here it ended up best that I just went home. I got laundry done and picked up the office (which looked like a tornado had hit previously). Then Kevin and I spent the rest of the evening on the phone. When I told the family the next day that he and I were on the phone for 4 hours, Grandma said, "What do you talk about for 4 hours?!" in complete shock. You know, I'm pretty lucky that I have a man that keeps me engaged in conversation for hours. We've been doing this for almost a year and we still haven't run out of things to talk about. It's so wonderful.

Sunday I spent the morning doing personal finances and laundry. Had a fabulous spagehetti and meatball lunch at Mom and Dad's. When I got back home, I hit the books...for hours. I'm not counting how many hours it took but it was a long time. But sometimes learning just takes time, right? Wanted to get in bed early last night but instead stayed up too late with Kevin so it was worth it.

Car Insurance
My car insurance rates just went up again. AGAIN! I'm so sick of paying out the wazoo for this stuff. It's not like I drive an expensive car - it's a 4 year old Civic! And it's not like I've ever gotten in a wreck! Yet they still keep raising prices. I now pay over $1000 a year for car insurance. I doubt I'll be able to find anything cheaper but I'm going to start looking around. Anyone happy with their rates?

After being mugged by Geico and Progressive, I switched to Allstate -- it was less than half of the cost of the other guys. They're apparently good for people with good credit and good driving records.

I'm with State Farm and I pay about what you pay but I have full coverage on a brand new 2003 Jetta. I think you might be overpaying. Plus I'm still under 25 so my rates are still high.
