Last night I went to a rally for Health Care Reform put on by Organizing for America (OFA). It was a good event and encouraging to see hundreds of people who support the reform of this country's health insurance system. The media coverage lately has been so focused on people who oppose reform, I forget that so many people really do want reform.
It's time to get the conversation about health care reform back on topic. The President is leading this reform and guided Congress by giving them three principles for health care reform to include in the reform bill.
I think these are great guidelines though I fully understand that this is not a simple problem to solve. For decades, Presidents and legislatures have been talking about reform, but they haven't been able to do it. The citizens of the US have waited long enough for the system to be fixed. Now is the time for our elected officials to begin working for us (and not protecting the insurance companies). It's going to be tough but it can be done.
I'm so glad to know that many, many people feel this way. Seeing hundreds of cheering people in Phoenix really encouraged me, because I know there are hundreds of thousands of others who feel the same way. We may not all agree on the right way to fix the problem, but at least we agree that it is a problem to be worked on. Let's all get into the dialog and make sure that things change because health care should be something everyone has access to.
Almost four weeks ago, Chris and I went to Las Vegas with a few of my coworkers. They were attending Defcon so we just tagged along for a weekend Vegas.

One of the things that I feel like I'm missing in my life is making art. I feel like I'm creative and thoughtful about my life, but that's not being translated into artistic work. I think there's something very important about working with my hands and for me, making art is a great way to do that. In order to motivate myself to actually make things, I've signed up for a couple art classes at ASU's Herberger Institute Community School for Design and the Arts. (I believe it's the continuing education program.)

Development of visual problem-solving skills is emphasized through exercises in perspective, tonal value, composition and spatial arrangement. This class is for beginning and intermediate students. Materials not included. Group size: 5–10. 6 weeks | $150

These classes are really, really affordable at $150 for 6 weeks ($25 a week)! I'm looking forward to having time devoted each week to spend making something artistic. The drawing class will be a good jump start to getting back into art. While I taught drawing classes 9 years ago, I can definitely use some practice and look forward to the structure a class will bring. The book design class is very exciting since I love books as an artistic medium. In college, I had the opportunity to make books by hand and really, really loved it. This class will allow me to mix my love of computers and my love of books. I'm REALLY looking forward to it.
While I'm excited about these courses, I also have some concerns. My first concern is that the classes won't be held because there aren't enough people signed up. (This happens all too often with community classes like these.) My second concern is that the classes are for ages 15 and up and they'll get filled up with high schoolers. Both of these concerns would go away if some of my friends (YOU) would sign up for these classes with me!
Clearly, you're convinced, right?! So go sign up!
This is the second package I've received from my father with a name that is not mine. I wonder if he's trying to push my buttons. It's working.

The problem with getting drunk is the bad decision-making. Like at 1am I should have stopped drinking gin and tonics and started drinking water. But because I was already drunk, I made a bad decision. Well, a couple bad decisions... one cape cod and two beers. Now I'm wasting away a perfectly good Saturday feeling hung over.
