41 Mile Ride on Presidents' Day

February 17, 2009 - 4:19pm

Bike ride 2-16-09

Since I had Presidents' Day off from work, I decided to take the opportunity to get a long bike ride in. The bike co-op in Tempe was having a class on headsets, so I rode from my house to Tempe. It took about two hours, though the route I chose was for the enjoyment and not efficiency. It was a gorgeous day and I thoroughly enjoyed slowly winding around neighborhoods in the mountains.

In Tempe, I met up with Chris who had just finished some school work. We ate a snack then swung by a bike shop before going to Bike Saviours, the co-op. The class was great. I learned how to take a headset apart, clean it, then reassemble it. (The headset is the part that allows you to steer the bike.)

After class, I rode from Bike Saviours to the new polo court. (The new court is at a park in Phoenix that has a tennis court adjusted for roller hockey. This is an improvement over the parking lot used before.) This last part of my ride took my total mileage up to 41 miles. So far, this is the most I've ridden in one day. I'm feeling very confident that I can do the MS 150 without any problem.
